“What we wanted for our students was a residential which allowed them to be a little bit outside their comfort zone.”
Year 8 students from Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School visited YMCA Lakeside for their summer residential.
With more than 100 acres of woodland and unrivalled access to the water, Lakeside provided the perfect backdrop for three days of outdoor learning, adventure, and personal discovery. Students immersed themselves in a variety of land and water-based challenges. Each activity was designed to spark confidence, resilience, and independence, while encouraging teamwork and problem-solving.
The residential wasn’t just about outdoor fun; it was about stepping away from the classroom and engaging with the natural world in a way that inspires growth and connection. Teachers highlighted how much pupils gained from being in such a unique environment – one where learning happens through doing, and every new challenge brings a sense of achievement.
Reflecting on the high ropes course, one pupil said: “It was quite intimidating at first and it feels like you are a lot higher than you are. But it was really fun and a sigh of relief came out at the end!”
One teacher commented: “There’s many, many girls here who have benefitted from this trip, especially in a teamwork situation.
“At the moment, there’s a lot of pressure with exam stress. Being away from that and being in this environment is absolutely fantastic. It’s blown them away.”
YMCA Lakeside ensures young people leave with unforgettable memories, stronger friendships, and life skills that shape brighter futures.
