Teams across the region are being urged to act fast as the deadline to enter this summer’s Dragon Boat Regatta at YMCA Lakeside is fast approaching. With entries closing on 10 May 2026, secure your place now for Saturday 11 July 2026 on Windermere. This fundraising regatta, in partnership with Kendal Rotary Club, promises an unforgettable day of racing, laughter and team spirit – all while helping to change young lives.
Dragon boat racing is an adrenaline-fuelled, fully inclusive sport where teams of up to 15 people paddle in sync to the beat of a drum, competing over short, fast-paced races. No experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to work together.
And the impact goes far beyond the water as every team that enters helps support children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access life-changing residential experiences in the heart of the Lake District. Funds raised contribute directly to outdoor adventure programmes that build confidence, resilience and friendships that last a lifetime.
From sailing and climbing to group challenges on the shores of Windermere, these residentials give young people opportunities they might never otherwise have.

Last year’s inaugural event brought together nearly 200 participants and raised thousands of pounds for local young people—and the feedback says it all. BaxterStorey, one of Britain’s leading independent catering companies, is already returning for 2026. Their Operations Director, Toby Rostron Maher, said: “The inaugural Dragonboat Regatta at YMCA Lakeside was a great event allowing us to get our teams out of the office and socialise in a relaxed environment with a competitive edge. The location is perfect and the whole event had a great atmosphere from start to finish. We would encourage everyone to get involved to enjoy a great day while supporting young people in the region. Perfect opportunity to bring people together and have a bit of fun—we will be back next year to defend our title as ‘best dressed team’, shame we aren’t as good actually on the water.”
