YMCA Lakeside Launches First Water-Based Activity Skills Week

Young people aged 11–15 are invited to make a splash this summer as YMCA Lakeside launches its very first Water-Based Activity Skills Week, taking place between Monday 10 to Friday 14 August.

It is designed for beginners and intermediates who want to develop sailing, kayaking, canoeing and stand up paddleboarding skills. As part of the five-day programme participants will have the opportunity to work towards awards including RYA Stage 1 Sailing and the Paddle UK Paddle Start Award, subject to weather conditions.

Throughout the week, attendees will experience a range of activities on the water, all delivered in a safe and supportive environment by fully qualified and experienced instructors. More than just skills on the lake, the programme has been designed to help young people develop independence, improve water safety awareness and gain practical outdoor skills that will benefit them long after the week has ended.

Each day runs from 9:00am to 4:30pm, with drop-off available from 8:30am and collection until 5:00pm. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, snacks, suitable clothing for water activities and a dry change of clothes. YMCA Lakeside will provide all essential safety equipment, including buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles, as well as wetsuits where required. Changing facilities and an indoor lunch space are also available.

With only nine places available, early booking is strongly recommended. This exciting new addition to YMCA Lakeside’s summer programme offers a fantastic opportunity for young people to challenge themselves, make new friends and create lasting memories on the water.
